Planting Instructions

• Position: Plant in a hot, sunny position receiving full sun (at least 6–8 hours daily) in rich, well-draining soil heavily amended with compost or well-rotted manure.
• Transplanting: Handle seedlings with extra care during transplanting, as melon root systems are sensitive and dislike disturbance. Gently ease from the nursery cell keeping the root ball intact.
• Depth & Spacing: Plant at the same depth as the nursery container. Vines spread vigorously, so space individual plants 1–1.5 metres apart in rows 1.5–2 metres apart, or plant on gentle mounds to encourage soil warmth and drainage.
• Watering: Water deeply and regularly at the base of the vine to maintain consistent moisture while vines establish and fruit sets. Reduce watering slightly as melons approach full size to concentrate the natural sugars and prevent waterlogged fruit.
• Harvest: Harvest after 11–13 weeks when the underside spot resting on the ground changes from white to a creamy yellow, the leaf curl/tendril nearest the fruit stem dries up completely, and a gentle tap gives off a dull, hollow sound.
