Tomato - Organic Red Currant

Tomato 'Red Currant' (Solanum pimpinellifolium) is a charming, highly prolific wild heirloom variety that produces hundreds of tiny, pea-sized, ruby-red fruits borne in long, cascading trusses. Delivering an amazingly intense, sweet-tart burst of flavor with every bite, its paper-thin skin and juicy texture make it a gourmet favorite. The vigorous, airy vines are exceptionally heat-tolerant and disease-resistant, yielding a continuous, heavy harvest right through the warmer months. Perfect for fresh snacking straight off the vine, tossing whole into salads, or decorating summer platters.

Planting Instructions

• Position: Plant in a warm, sheltered spot in full sun (at least 6–8 hours daily) in fertile, well-draining soil enriched with compost or well-rotted organic matter.
• Transplanting: Handle seedlings gently by the leaf or root ball. Plant slightly deeper than it sat in its nursery cell, burying the lower stem to promote extra root development.
• Depth & Spacing: Space plants 60–80 cm apart. As a sprawling, highly branched indeterminate variety, it requires a sturdy 1.8 m stake, heavy trellis, or large cage to support its rampant growth and keep heavy fruit trusses off the ground.
• Watering: Water deeply and regularly at the base of the plant to keep soil evenly moist. Avoid overhead spraying to protect foliage from fungal issues.
• Harvest: Harvest continuously after 9–11 weeks when tiny fruits ripen to a bright, solid ruby-red. Harvest full trusses by snipping the main stem for easy picking.
