Tomato 'Grosse Lisse' is Australia’s all-time favorite medium-to-large heirloom slicing tomato, famous for its exceptionally heavy yields of smooth, globe-shaped, deep-red fruit. Renowned for its rich, classic, old-fashioned tomato flavor with a perfect balance of sweetness and acidity, it features medium-thin skin and juicy, meaty flesh. A reliable, robust performer that thrives in warm summer conditions, making it an essential choice for sandwiches, salads, grilling, and slicing fresh.

Planting Instructions

  • Position: Plant in a warm, sheltered spot in full sun (at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight daily) in fertile, well-draining soil heavily enriched with compost or aged manure.
  • Transplanting: Handle seedlings gently to protect roots. Plant slightly deeper than it sat in its nursery cell, burying the stem up to its lowest leaves to promote extra root growth along the stem.
  • Depth & Spacing: Space plants 60–75 cm apart in rows 90 cm apart. As an indeterminate (climbing) variety, install a sturdy 1.8 m stake or heavy-duty tomato cage at planting time to support tall, heavy-fruiting vines.
  • Watering: Water deeply and regularly at ground level to maintain consistent soil moisture. Even watering helps prevent fruit cracking and blossom end rot. Avoid wetting the leaves.
  • Harvest: Harvest after 12–14 weeks when fruits turn a uniform deep red and yield slightly to gentle pressure.
