Tomato - Organic Black Russian

Tomato 'Black Russian' is a famous, highly prized heirloom variety originating from Ukraine, celebrated for its medium-sized, dark mahogany-red to deep purple-brown fruit. Offering a rich, complex, and smoky-sweet flavor balanced with a delightful acidity, it features smooth, tender skin and soft, juicy flesh. An ideal slicing tomato that brings both rich gourmet flavor and striking color contrast to fresh summer salads, platters, and sandwiches.

Planting Instructions

• Position: Requires a warm, sheltered spot in full sun (at least 6–8 hours daily) in fertile, free-draining soil heavily amended with organic compost or aged manure.
• Transplanting: Handle carefully to avoid disturbing the root system. Plant slightly deeper than it sat in its nursery cell, burying the stem up to its lower leaves to encourage extra root development.
• Depth & Spacing: Space plants 60–75 cm apart in rows 90 cm apart. Install a strong 1.8m stake or sturdy tomato cage at planting time to support these tall-growing (indeterminate) vines.
• Watering: Water deeply and consistently at soil level to keep moisture levels even. Inconsistent watering can lead to skin splitting or blossom end rot. Avoid splashing water onto foliage.
• Harvest: Harvest after 11–13 weeks when fruits turn a deep, dark reddish-brown with dusky green shoulders and yield slightly to gentle pressure.
