Revered for over 4,000 years across ancient Egyptian, Greek, Ayurvedic, and Traditional Chinese Medicine, Licorice Root (Glycyrrhiza glabra) is one of the world's most foundational botanical remedies. Known in Chinese herbalism as the "Great Harmonizer," Licorice is uniquely capable of smoothing out harsh flavors and unifying multi-herb formulations. Rich in triterpenoid saponins—most notably glycyrrhizin (which is up to 50 times sweeter than sucrose without spiking blood sugar)—alongside over 300 flavonoid compounds (such as liquiritin and isoliquiritin) and soothing polysaccharides. In modern Western herbalism and clinical naturopathy, Licorice Root acts as a premier demulcent, adrenal tonic adaptogen, expectorant, and mucosal anti-inflammatory that hydrates dry tissues, coats irritated stomach membranes, and supports healthy cortisol metabolism.

TASTE & ENERGETICS

  • Taste: Richly sweet, earthy, smooth, slightly anise-like
  • Energetics: Moistening, cooling, soothing, harmonizing, building

TRADITIONALLY USED FOR:

  • Mucosal Hydration & Soothing: Coating and protecting irritated throat, esophageal, and gastrointestinal membranes with slippery demulcent mucilage.
  • Adrenal & Cortisol Support: Assisting adrenal gland function, supporting healthy stress hormone metabolism, and fighting deep nervous exhaustion.
  • Respiratory Clearing & Expectorant: Softening stubborn mucus, easing tickly dry coughs, and soothing inflamed bronchial airways.
  • Gastrointestinal Comfort: Soothing stomach heat, hyperacidity, digestive spasms, and dry bowel sluggishness.

BREWING & PREPARATION INSTRUCTIONS

  • Root Decoction (Rich Soothing Brew): Add 1 teaspoon of dried Licorice Root to 1.5 cups of cold water in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, cover tightly, and simmer gently low for 10–15 minutes to extract its deep saponins and sweetness. Strain and sip warm 1–2 times daily.
  • Synergy & Harmonizing Accent: Add just a small pinch (1/4 tsp) to bitter or pungent herbal blends to naturally sweeten, round out sharp flavors, and soothe the digestive tract.
  • Note: Avoid high daily doses if you have unmanaged high blood pressure or are pregnant.

Pack Sizes & Servings:

  • 15g Bag: Approx. 5 to 7 cups (Perfect for sampling)
  • 25g Bag: Approx. 10 to 12 cups (Ideal for a 1-week daily routine
  • 50g Bag: Approx. 20 to 25 cups (Best value for a full month's daily ritual)
