Lettuce - Organic Lollo

Lettuce 'Lollo' (available in both 'Lollo Rossa' red and 'Lollo Bionda' green varieties) is a striking Italian heirloom prized for its heavily frilled, tightly curled leaves and exceptional decorative appeal. It offers a mild, sweet, and nutty flavor with a tender yet crisp texture that holds salad dressings exceptionally well. Highly resistant to bolting, its dense, compact heads are ideal for adding vibrant color, loft, and texture to fresh summer salads.

Planting Instructions

• Position: Plant in full sun to partial shade in fertile, moisture-retentive soil rich in organic matter. Partial or afternoon shade is beneficial during hot spells to prevent heat stress.
• Transplanting: Carefully ease seedlings from their cells, keeping the root structure intact.
• Depth & Spacing: Plant into the ground at the exact soil level of the nursery pot—do not bury the crown. Space plants 20–25 cm apart.
• Watering: Water regularly and gently at ground level to keep the soil consistently moist. Avoid overhead watering where possible, as water can collect in the tightly frilled leaves.
• Harvest: Harvest outer ruffled leaves individually for continuous pick-and-come-again use, or harvest the entire loose head when mature (around 5–7 weeks after transplanting).
