Leek - Organic Autumn Giant

Leek 'Autumn Giant' is a traditional, reliable heirloom variety prized for producing long, thick, heavy white shafts topped with dark blue-green foliage. Offering a delicate, sweet, and subtle onion flavor, it is far milder and sweeter than standard bulb onions. Highly cold-tolerant and robust, it stands exceptionally well in the ground during cooler months, making it an essential ingredient for comforting winter soups, broths, roasts, and savory tarts.

Planting Instructions

• Position: Thrives in full sun in deep, loose, fertile soil heavily amended with compost or well-rotted organic matter, free of stones.
• Transplanting: Carefully separate individual seedlings. Dibble deep, narrow holes (15–20 cm deep) and drop one seedling into each hole without filling it back in with soil; watering will naturally settle the dirt around the stem to encourage long, blanched white shafts.
• Depth & Spacing: Space individual plants 15 cm apart in rows 30 cm apart.
• Watering: Water deeply and regularly to keep soil consistently moist, encouraging steady, thick stem development.
• Harvest: Begin harvesting once shafts reach a thick, usable size (around 15–20 weeks from transplanting) by gently lifting the roots with a garden fork.
