Chard - Organic Ruby Red

Chard 'Ruby Red' (also known as Rhubarb Chard) is a striking, highly ornamental leafy green featuring brilliant crimson-red stems, dark ruby veins, and deeply crumpled, glossy dark-green leaves. Offering a mild, earthy, spinach-like flavor, it is as nutritious as it is visually appealing. Excellent for adding vibrant color to fresh salads when picked young, or cooked like spinach into stir-fries, soups, quiches, and side dishes.

Planting Instructions

• Position: Plant in full sun to light partial shade in deep, fertile, moisture-retentive soil amended with organic matter or aged manure.
• Transplanting: Carefully ease seedlings from their cells to keep the taproot intact during planting.
• Depth & Spacing: Plant at the same depth as the nursery pot. Space plants 30–35 cm apart in rows 40 cm apart to give the broad stalks room to spread.
• Watering: Water regularly and deeply to keep the soil consistently moist. Adequate moisture maintains stem crispness and keeps leaves tender.
• Harvest: Pick outer stalks as needed using a "cut-and-come-again" method, twisting or cutting them near the base while leaving the inner crown to keep producing.
