Beetroot (Beta vulgaris) is a highly nutritious plant valued in both traditional herbal medicine and modern natural health. Both the leaf and the root carry unique medicinal properties, making beetroot a powerful and versatile remedy. While the root is best known for supporting circulation and liver health, the leaf is rich in essential vitamins and minerals that strengthen overall wellbeing. This dual-action remedy offers support for detoxification, cardiovascular health, energy, and nutrient replenishment.
Medicinal Uses – Beetroot Leaf
- Rich source of folate, vitamin K, vitamin C, magnesium, and calcium, supporting bone, blood, and immune health
- Acts as a nutritive tonic, replenishing minerals in those with deficiencies or high stress.
- Supports eye health with its high levels of lutein and beta-carotene.
- Provides antioxidant protection, helping combat oxidative stress and inflammation.
- Traditionally used to support liver detoxification and healthy bile flow.
- May help regulate blood pressure due to magnesium and potassium content.
- Useful in cases of anemia, supporting red blood cell formation due to iron and folate content.
Medicinal Uses – Beetroot Root
- Naturally rich in nitrates, which can improve blood circulation and support healthy blood pressure.
- Enhances exercise performance and stamina by improving oxygen uptake.
- Supports liver detoxification pathways, especially phase 2 detoxification.
- Promotes cardiovascular health by reducing oxidative stress and inflammation.
- Acts as a blood tonic, supporting the building of healthy red blood cells.
- Aids in digestive health, stimulating stomach acid and bile production.
- Supports blood sugar balance when used in moderation.
- Traditionally used as a kidney tonic to assist in gentle cleansing.
Precautions
- May lower blood pressure – use with caution if already taking antihypertensive medication.
- Beetroot root may temporarily cause pink or red urine/stool (harmless but important to note).
- Avoid high doses in people prone to kidney stones (due to oxalates in both leaf and root).
- Use with caution in individuals with iron overload conditions such as hemochromatosis.
- Pregnant and breastfeeding women should consult a qualified practitioner before use.
- Always seek professional guidance if taking prescription medications, particularly for blood pressure, blood sugar, or liver function.

Available Formats: Elixir, Tincture, and Glycetract
We offer this herbal remedy in three different preparations to suit a variety of health needs, taste preferences, and sensitivities. Whether you're looking for a traditional alcohol-based tincture, a sweet and nourishing elixir (also contains alcohol), or a gentle alcohol-free glycetract, you can choose the form that’s right for you or your loved ones.
Glycetract (Glycerite)
Glycetracts are alcohol-free extracts made using vegetable glycerin and water. They are ideal for those who are sensitive to alcohol, including children, pets, or those with liver conditions. While they are not always as potent as tinctures, they are still effective and particularly well-suited for milder conditions or long-term support.
Best for: Children, pets, those avoiding alcohol, or for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding (with practitioner advice).
Elixir
Elixirs are traditional herbal preparations made using a blend of alcohol, Glycerin, and water. They are often used when you want both therapeutic action and a palatable, sweetish flavour, especially for those who prefer not to taste the bitterness of herbs.
Best for: Adults and children - ages 1+, general wellness and those who dislike bitter tinctures.
Tincture
Tinctures are highly concentrated herbal extracts made using alcohol as a solvent. This is one of the most effective ways to extract the full medicinal spectrum of most herbs, including alkaloids, essential oils, and resins.
Best for: Adults or those looking for fast, potent results. Not ideal for those sensitive to alcohol, reformed alcoholics or for young children under 1.
By purchasing and using these tinctures, you accept full responsibility for their use and agree to do so at your own discretion. For any questions about these products, please reach out to us prior to purchasing.
Which One Should I Choose?
- Want the strongest, fastest effect? Choose a Tincture.
- Prefer a sweeter, more nourishing option? Go for an Elixir.
- Need something gentle and alcohol-free? Opt for a Glycetract.
