Beetroot - Organic Detroit

An heirloom classic loved since 1892, Beetroot 'Detroit Dark Red' is renowned for its smooth, dark-red globes and sweet, earthy flavor. Free from pale interior rings, it is exceptionally versatile for roasting, pickling, juicing, or grating fresh. The tender young leaves feature rich crimson stems, giving you a bonus harvest of vibrant salad greens while the roots mature.

Planting Instructions

• Position: Plant in full sun to partial shade in loose, friable soil rich in compost. Ensure the soil is free of heavy clay or large rocks so the roots can swell evenly
• Transplanting: Plant out carefully without disturbing the delicate taproot. If seedlings are clustered in the cell, plant the cluster intact or gently tease apart without tearing the roots
• Depth & Spacing: Plant into the ground at the exact depth they were sitting in their nursery container—do not bury the crown. Space individual plants 10 cm apart in rows 30 cm apart.
• Watering: Water in thoroughly with a gentle liquid seaweed or fish fertilizer to reduce transplant shock. Keep the soil consistently moist while the roots establish and expand.
• Harvest: Harvest young outer leaves as needed throughout the season. Pull mature beets after 6–8 weeks when roots reach roughly 5–8 cm in diameter.
