Spring Onions (also known as Scallions or Green Onions) are a versatile garden essential, producing slender white bulbs topped with crisp, hollow, dark-green stems. They offer a mild, delicate onion flavor that works brilliantly raw in salads, salsas, and garnishes, or cooked into stir-fries, omelets, and soups. Highly productive and compact, they take up minimal space and provide a quick, continuous harvest for home cooks.

Planting Instructions

• Position: Plant in full sun to light partial shade in loose, well-draining soil enriched with compost or aged organic matter.
• Transplanting: Gently separate clumped seedlings if desired, or plant small clusters together for multi-stem harvesting. Take care not to damage the fine roots.
• Depth & Spacing: Plant at the same depth as the nursery pot, ensuring the white root bases are buried but the leaves remain above ground. Space plants or small clumps 5–10 cm apart in rows 15–20 cm apart.
• Watering: Water regularly to keep the topsoil consistently moist. Regular moisture promotes rapid growth and keeps the stems tender and mild.
• Harvest: Snip green tops as needed for ongoing cooking, or harvest the whole plant by gently pulling from the base once stems reach pencil thickness (around 8–10 weeks after transplanting).
