Echinacea (Echinacea purpurea) is one of the most well-known herbs in Western herbal medicine. Traditionally used by Native American tribes and later adopted widely in Europe and beyond, echinacea has become a go-to herb for supporting the immune system. Its active compounds help the body’s natural defenses, making it a trusted choice during seasonal changes and times of lowered resistance.

Medicinal Uses

  • Immune Support – Strengthens the body’s natural defenses against colds, flu, and infections.
  • Respiratory Health – Commonly used to ease symptoms of sore throats, coughs, sinus congestion, and bronchitis.
  • Wound Healing – Traditionally applied externally for cuts, burns, bites, ulcers, and skin infections.
  • Anti-inflammatory Properties – May help reduce inflammation in the body, supporting joint and tissue health.
  • Antimicrobial Action – Contains compounds that can help fight off bacteria, viruses, and fungi.
  • Urinary Tract Health – Sometimes used to support recovery from urinary tract infections.
  • General Wellness – Supports vitality and resilience during times of stress, illness, or lowered immunity.

Precautions

  • Generally safe for short-term use at recommended doses.
  • Avoid if allergic to plants in the daisy family (e.g., ragweed, marigold, daisies).
  • Not recommended for individuals with autoimmune disorders unless advised by a healthcare professional.
  • Long-term continuous use is not typically advised.
  • May interact with certain medications that affect the immune system.

Echinacea is a powerful immune-supporting herb that helps the body stay resilient against infections while soothing respiratory and skin concerns. With its wide range of traditional and modern applications, echinacea remains a trusted natural ally for year-round wellness.

Available Formats: Elixir, Tincture, and Glycetract

We offer this herbal remedy in three different preparations to suit a variety of health needs, taste preferences, and sensitivities. Whether you're looking for a traditional alcohol-based tincture, a sweet and nourishing elixir (also contains alcohol), or a gentle alcohol-free glycetract, you can choose the form that’s right for you or your loved ones.

Glycetract (Glycerite)

Glycetracts are alcohol-free extracts made using vegetable glycerin and water. They are ideal for those who are sensitive to alcohol, including children, pets, or those with liver conditions. While they are not always as potent as tinctures, they are still effective and particularly well-suited for milder conditions or long-term support.

Best for: Children, pets, those avoiding alcohol, or for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding (with practitioner advice).

Elixir

Elixirs are traditional herbal preparations made using a blend of alcohol, Glycerin, and water. They are often used when you want both therapeutic action and a palatable, sweetish flavour, especially for those who prefer not to taste the bitterness of herbs.

Best for: Adults and children - ages 1+, general wellness and those who dislike bitter tinctures.

Tincture

Tinctures are highly concentrated herbal extracts made using alcohol as a solvent. This is one of the most effective ways to extract the full medicinal spectrum of most herbs, including alkaloids, essential oils, and resins.

Best for: Adults or those looking for fast, potent results. Not ideal for those sensitive to alcohol, reformed alcoholics or for young children under 1.

By purchasing and using these tinctures, you accept full responsibility for their use and agree to do so at your own discretion. For any questions about these products, please reach out to us prior to purchasing.

Which One Should I Choose?

  • Want the strongest, fastest effect? Choose a Tincture.
  • Prefer a sweeter, more nourishing option? Go for an Elixir.
  • Need something gentle and alcohol-free? Opt for a Glycetract.
